About us

Yuruparí Grupo Folclórico is a community dance group based in London, founded in 1988 by Xihomara Granados and Jorge Hurtado. Named after a traditional Amazonian celebration, Yuruparí brings people together through the rich traditions of Colombian and Latin American culture. We offer weekly open classes and perform at multiple events across the UK, as well as leading workshops in schools and community settings. Through music and dance, we celebrate the beauty, diversity, and spirit of Colombia.

Teaching and Education

Since its formation, one of Yuruparí Grupo Folklorico’s aim is to educate people and disseminate the knowledge of the Colombian and Latin American Culture in the UK. Yuruparí had done hundreds of dance workshops in schools, community centres, churches, cultural centres and many other public and private venues to fulfil this aim. We are able to provide dance workshops for all ages and occasions.

We have also choreographed dances for special events or occasions most recently for the Elephant Revealing Day at Castle square and the opening of Colombian Gold Exhibition at the British Museum. Also special choreographies for weddings and Quinciañeras.
